Project Description:

UCONN Health relocated this Primary Care Practice to improve patient services by consolidating their facility onto one contiguous floor.  Their previous location in East Hartford was plagued by inefficiencies for the staff as well as being inconveniently located for their patients because it was split between two floors of an outdated building.  This relocation project allowed the physicians and staff to plan for improved operational efficiencies between their different medical disciplines.  The new space allowed them to maintain a perceived separation for the benefit of the patients while still preserving a “back-of-the-house” adjacency for staff where necessary.  Patients for the Women’s Clinic would not be aware of how connected their part of the medical office was to the Internal Medicine or the Pediatrics teams.  A large, central Charting Station for the Internal Medicine and the Pediatrics teams was provided to foster communication and collaboration between the disciplines.  This highly efficient plan allowed for 24 exam rooms, 13 offices and all of the varied support spaces required to support a medical office to be located in only 11,500 square feet of space.
