Project Description:

The CHK Design Team worked closely with The Hartford and their Foodservice provider, SODEXO, to provide a more simplified design solution to meet the requirements of this standalone suburban office facility.

A state-of–the–art Dining Facility was one of the many program elements that were included in the development of The Hartford’s Windsor Campus.  The Design Team was responsible for the full range of professional design services required to develop this 475,000 square foot build-to-suit office building.  The completed project included a 22,000 square foot Food Service facility.

This Corporate Dining Facility was designed to support an ultimate building population of 3,600 employees and included a large Servery with a Salad Bar, Deli, Grille and Pizza Station as well as a large number of action stations where a cook prepares the patron’s meal in full view, marché style.  A catering area was included in the kitchen to support the meeting rooms.  A portion of the Servery is devoted to grab-and-go, pre-prepared foods.  The Dining Room was designed to be a multifunction meeting space with two moveable walls and built-in audio visual technology.  Also included in the dining room is a café/coffee bar where employees can purchase coffee throughout the day.

A number of energy saving technologies were employed both in the cafeteria and in the building.  There are 1,200 photovoltaic panels on the roof of the building, and a 700 kva fuel cell provides power 24 hours a day.
