Project Description:

The Cigna Headquarters Building is a landmark building designed in the late 1950’s by Skidmore Owings and Merrill (SOM) in the International Style.  It was Cigna’s goal to remain faithful to the historic nature of the facility while creating a fresh, high quality interior design to inspire employees to utilize this new collaborative “work café” space at all hours of the day.

The Design Team needed to develop a phased approach to the design to support the Owner’s requirement of providing complete food service options to the employee base during all phases of the project. CHK worked closely with Cigna, Aramark, WD (Food Service Designer), Kohler Ronan (MEP Engineers), and Bartlett Brainard Eacott (Construction Manager) to develop a project plan and phased construction (only) schedule to deliver this project in a 12 to 13 month timeframe.

Through numerous visioning sessions with Cigna and the Aramark teams, CHK developed a new state of the art Servery with numerous healthy option action stations and a clean aesthetic finish palette to support Cigna’s wellness objectives.  This new Servery provided better circulation and queuing to enhance the employee experience.

The new Dining Room provided a variety of seating options with smaller, more intimate settings for one or two people and numerous settings for larger groups.  The goal was to make the Dining Room a destination space for all hours of the day with enhanced wireless connectivity, numerous points for recharging devices and several varieties of collaborative areas with AV support.

The project also included the following:

Coffee Kiosk – providing Starbucks ® products, light Grab & Go items and healthy snack options.

Employee Genius Bar / Help Desk – providing support for all employee laptops, phones, password issues, and other electronic device support.

Several Conferencing options with video conferencing and presentation technology capabilities.

Seasonal Outdoor Dining Area to support large employee gatherings, special food service activities, and casual outdoor dining.

Reserve Dining Area – an area adjacent to the cafeteria, Reserved Dining includes three conference rooms for the purpose of private dining/meetings.
