Architectural Design

CHK Architects was founded by Eamon Clohessy A.I.A. and James Harris A.I.A. in 1987. Initially concentrating on the design of new commercial office buildings, they soon expanded their architectural firm to include Interior Design and Facilities Planning and Design. In 1989, Richard Kaiser, A.I.A joined the firm and significantly grew the Interior segment of this architectural practice serving the corporate community in greater Hartford.

 

Further expansion in the 1990s brought about Architectural and Interior services that would include its present project focus areas of Workspaces, Dining, Technology, Wellness, Retail, Industrial, and Ecclesiastic. Joining James Harris and Richard Kaiser on the senior leadership team and further supporting the firm’s philosophy of a team approach to the challenges of architecture, planning and design, Rodolfo Garcia, Steven Hine, and Hugh Schweitzer were promoted to Partner in 2018.

 

CHK Architects has been recognized among architecture firms in Connecticut with several awards for its creative solutions and responsibility to the needs of the environment. Although based as a Connecticut architecture firm, CHK's project experience extends beyond New England with projects in several states for large national and international corporations that are headquartered in Hartford County.

 

Working on an extensive range of building types from residential architecture in Hartford to commercial, security, government and university work has positioned CHK Architects to easily adapt to the unique requirements of each client. Although one of the older Connecticut Architecture firms, our philosophy remains focused on achieving a balance between satisfying the changing functional needs of each client, and creating aesthetic environments that elevate the human spirit and stimulate the accomplishments of their users.

 

At CHK Architects, we build long-lasting relationships by working collaboratively with our clients to create design solutions that optimize functionality, support their long-term business objectives and ultimately result in competitive Construction Document bid packages.  Our firm is licensed to practice in over twenty states to better serve our clients. In addition to memberships in the American Institute of Architects and AIA Connecticut, a number of our skilled and dedicated professionals have earned LEED accreditation and are licensed Building Officials in the State of Connecticut.
